For those of you who know me, you know that I’m pretty much a confused global citizen aka I don’t have one specific place I call home.
Let me elaborate a little bit for those who don’t know me. My name is Aditi Saldanha and I am a fourth year architecture student at Iowa State University. Through my parents’ jobs and university, I’ve lived in three different countries (Malaysia, Qatar, and the U.S.) – but have an Indian passport. Each of these countries holds a special and dear place in my heart and I am fortunate to call each of these countries home. In-between all the shuffling around, I was able to travel to over 17 countries spread over 5 continents. Thanks to my parents, I have an innate desire and passion to travel and see the world – to visit foreign lands, experience new cultures, taste new cuisines, and everything in-between. Not to mention, I get to eat lots and lots of airplane food (No, I’m not crazy, I just really enjoy airplane food).
This year, I decided to add a new home to my list: Cork, Ireland. Over the next five months, I will be studying architecture at the University College Cork in Ireland while also using some of my weekends to explore Ireland and the rest of Europe. As much as I love Ames (ok, I’m not sure how much I really love Iowa), four years in a small Midwestern town after living in huge metropolitan cities was getting old. Time for my next adventure!
Moving and living around the world has formed who I am and has given me the perspectives I hold today. Though scary and daunting at first, it has given the opportunities and experiences most can only dream of. As I prepare to fly out tonight, I am no longer scared of moving to a completely foreign land – I have nothing but excitement for what is to come! Even better, I get to explore Europe with my best friend, Arthi! I hope this blog will be a synopsis of all my adventures abroad.
a strong desire to travel.
